Summers End

Well, that's it boys and girls. August is coming to a close, the summer is winding down, and Labor Day is just around the corner. It's been a great couple of months, hasn't it? Lots of big things happened over at Cafe.com... bunches of new games, new site design, new MiniMes - and of course, you've gotten to listen to everyones favorite blogger flap her gums (or fingers, as it were).

It's odd: Once you've grown past school age - and the attendant horrors that September brings -  one day is more or less just like the next. Still, there's always something sad about seeing the summer go. Those long lazy days, late nights at sidewalk cafes, afternoons at the beach... yup, somehow, there's always something special about the summer.

Oh well, out with the old and in with the new, right? Goodbye water skis, hello snow skis! Long summer evenings, meet cozy nights in front of a roaring fire!

Don't worry ladies and gents, cafe.com will be here all through the long autumn and winter, keeping you warm with hot new games and features. So enjoy your Labor Day Barbeque, pack the kiddies off to school, and get ready to greet the new season with us!

I've had a chance to try them all, and while they're all great, I've got to say I looooooooooooves me some Brain Quiz. Ok, maybe its because I beat my friends five times in a row, but I still maintain it rocks on its own merits.

Absolute Solitaire Contest Winner

It's been a fierce contest, but the numbers are in! And the winner of Cafe.com's first annual Absolute Solitaire contest and the 1gb iPod Shuffle is: Robertp223??? Yup, thats right!

Robertp223, who regular readers may remember from June's Player Spotlight, blew past the competition in week two and remained untouched for the remainder of the contest period, taking the win with a mind-boggling 141,470 points! 2nd and 3rd place honors go to PocketRocket, who finished out the week with 133,920 points, and Evil1269u nipping at his heels with 132,510 points.

Kudos to Wadjet Eye Games

Cafe.com would like to extend its congratulations to our friend David Gilbert of Wadjet Eye Games, who was just named by Gamasutra.com as one of the top 20 breakthrough game developers of 2008. Wadjet Eye is known for its uniques titles like Blackwell and the rabbi-starring The Shivah - my personal favorite - and with their recently signed deal with hit casual publisher PlayFirst means we can all look forward to more innovative offerings from this fantastic up-and-coming studio.

Great job Dave, and everyone else over at Wadjet Eye!

Site Changes

Howdy all. You may have noticed some recent changes with the Cafe.com site. That's because we've updated our interface to provide a sleeker, smoother appearance, simpler navigation, and more easily keep players updated on the goings-on of others on the site. I really like the new look, and I hope you do too!

Olympic Countdown: Four more days!

It's going to be an exciting week, all you sports fans out there on the interwebz. Friday August 8th marks the beginning of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. I can't wait! Whatever your personal feelings on any controversy surrounding the location and politics of this years games, you have to respect the concept behind the Olympics: An event where all nations come together, regardless of race and creed, political leanings, and personal agendas, to celebrate and compete together in a free environment where the only thing that matters it the track laid out in front of you and the runners behind you eating your dust. Speed, skill, and national pride; that's what its all about!

So don't forget to tune in to your local news channel to watch the opening ceremonies this Friday, and root for your home country. Feel free to post on-going news about scores and coverage in the comments section.
