One of the games on new Cafe.com, Sketch-It! is a cross between Etch A Sketch and Charades. Players must get competitors to guess a secret word by drawing the object using a palette of colors. Newcomers get 10,000 Cafe coins (virtual currency) to outfit their "Mini-Me" or to use during games as "boosts.""

Mahjong Wars: cafe.com whups pogo

Mahjongwars2

Man, what are they thinking over at Pogo.com?

I just can’t get into their Mahjong games. Literally. Oh don’t get me wrong, at my friends’ behest I really, really tried, but it’s like they want you to give up in frustration. For starters, the best version of it isn’t even available to everyone… you have to be a paying VIP.

Oh well, they’ve got bunches of others, I’ll just try one of them right? Oh, too bad, can’t play it in Firefox, so now I have to load up Internet Explorer (ew). Can you say inconvenient? On to the game! Wait, no… oh look, IE needs to install software to play the game… and the browser’s security protocols are blocking its own download. Great. The game better be worth all this trouble.

And meanwhile, I especially love the little add screaming “hello” at me every time my mouse passes near it. Not. Ok, forget in-browser, I’ll just try the downloadable version.

Finally, I’m playing. Ok, lots of layouts, pretty graphics, not bad…not bad… but jeez, can you say “boring”? And way too easy.

That’s it, I give up. I’m going back to Cafe.com. The Mahjong there is just a lot more challenging … I just click and play. Don’t even have to be a member!

Cafe.com reviews

Caf Smilie Big-1
2 nice reviews over the week end about cafe.com

Casual Gamer Chick: "Casual gaming shouldn’t resemble walking into a car dealership, free casual games are not nagware and shouldn’t be in your face. This is the number one reason we have to recommend Cafe.com as a place to stop by and game. Give us quality casual games without the harassment and we’ll stay around to play."

and

Casualgaming.biz: "Social gaming portal Café.com believes it CafeCoins micro-transaction system has pioneered an Asian business model in the West – and is having winning results"

May 11 is Mother's Day

Hey all you good little boys and girls, don't forget, Sunday May 11 is Mothers Day! But you all knew that, and have already made plans with your mom, right? Of course you did! I'm taking mine on a picnic in Central Park, with all her favorite wine and cheeses and little treats. Hope it doesn't rain! If it does, we're going to stay in and have ourselves a little Mahjong contest at Cafe.com.

Speaking of which; along with flowers, chocolates, and a trip to the spa, what better way to show your appreciation to the woman who brought you into this world (and didn't take you out of it despite her threats) then to get mom in on the games at Cafe.com? Show her some love with 5,000 free cafecoins she can use for boosts, Minime customization, and other nifty things. Just enter the invitation code "mom" when registering an account, or by going to the Shop and clicking "Claim Coupon".

Happy Mothers Day! And hey - don't slouch! Did you wash behind your ears? Don't sit so close to the computer screen, and eat your vegetables! And...

Happy Cinco de Mayo

There's nothing Cafe.com loves more than a celebration, that's why we're happy to join in the festivities and wish everyone a happy Cinco de Mayo! Today commemorates the triumph of Mexican forces over French invaders at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. A day to remember to be sure, but don't get it confused with Mexican Independence day: That doesn't roll around until September.

The traditional way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo? Food, drink, and dance! So grab an empanada, mix up some margaritas, strike up a samba and dance the night away! And if you get tired, gather up your friends and move it on over to Cafe.com, where the party's always happening!

Interview with Cafe.com's biggest fans

Hey all! We've got a special spotlight on todays blog, an interview with Cafe.com's biggest fans: Owatevr, Spartan11738, and candra03; a mother-daughter-son trio who know that a family that plays together, stays together!

I sat down with these close-knit java heads to find out what keeps em coming back to the Cafe. The questions were posed to all three, and answers were provided by Owatevr.

1. First things first, how did you discover Cafe.com? I think I received an email telling me about a new game site... so I checked it out. I am so glad I did... we LOVE playing at cafe.com!

2. Do you have a favorite game to play together? :0) We don't have the same favorites. The kids like to play Sketch It and I LOVE to play Temple of Mahjong. So, we play both quite a bit. I bribe them to play Mahjong with me by playing Sketch It with them!

3. What is your strategy to beat each other? Bragging in our household is definitely something to be had! The kids will stop at nothing (including emailing the tech people for hints) to beat Mom. And you'll catch us practicing every change we get to keep our skills sharp!

4. Bragging rights, huh? So who brags the most? Mom [Owatevr], by far! At my age, these are the things you look forward to!

5. Ok, but who WINS the most? [My Son] Spartan usually mops the floor with us when we play Sketch It, but Mom [Owatevr] RULES at Temple of Mahjong! [My daughter] Candra is only 8, so she doesn't have the gross motor skills yet to be a real threat... but she's developing them everyday!

6. What's it like getting to play together with your family like this? It's a lot of fun! It makes computer time "family time" that we can all enjoy. The kids have 2 older sisters also, but being older teenagers and all we can't get them to play with us... they don't know what they are missing!

Wow, isn't this nice? More families should get together like this! Keep playing guys, and good luck. Thanks for the interview, and I hope you manage to get those other two girls on. You're right, they're totally missing out!
